NEW PROCEDURES

COVID-19

HELP KEEP US SAFE DURING COVID-19

We will be operating with a reduced capacity throughout the building.  Booking will not currently be required for the gym but we would recommend booking swimming for the weekend Family Swims and the Ladies and Male only sessions as these can become very popular.  All other sessions such as lane swimming do not require a booking but we will require non members to provide their name and phone number for the NHS Test and Trace programme.  Please pay via contactless or card wherever possible and please be patient as we adjust to the new normal.

Elswick Pool and Gym will be deep cleaned overnight and regularly through the day, using high-grade disinfectants that will kill the virus.

It is impossible to keep any environment 100% clean, as evidenced even in hospital operating theatres. However, it is possible to make environments ‘safe’ by undertaking the appropriate cleaning and disinfecting measures. COVID-19 is easy to kill with most readily available domestic cleaning agents and with thorough hand washing with soap for 20 seconds or more. Coupled with safe distancing and avoidance of touching the face, together with other building environment measures, including good ventilation, a safe environment can be established and maintained.

GYM

  1. Do not enter the centre if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 and follow the Government advice.
  2. When entering, wear a face covering and wash your hands or use the hand sanitiser.
  3. Gym members can swipe their card and enter the gym providing they have provided an up to date phone number in the membership system.  Non members will have to provide a name and phone number for NHS Test and Trace.
  4. No Changing rooms will be available for Gym use so please arrive and leave in your gym clothing.
  5. Face coverings are not recommended when exercising, however you can choose to wear one in the gym.
  6. Use the cleaning stations to wipe down your equipment before and after use.
  7. Maintain social distance throughout your session and once finished put your face covering back on when you exit the building.

SWIMMING POOL

  1. Do not enter the centre if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 and follow the Government advice.
  2. When entering, wear a face covering and wash your hands or use the hand sanitiser.
  3. We advise that you call us (0191 4814101) to book in for our busy sessions which are ladies only and family swims on the weekend.  All other sessions will be operated on a first come basis and we will ensure we stick within the latest capacity guidance set out by the Government and Swim England.  See timetable for details.
  4. Changing rooms will only be available for swimming and limit your time in there.  We advise coming swim ready with your swim wear under your clothing.  Shower at home where possible.  Some showers are available but should be used for as little time as you can.  Changing rooms are unisex cubicles and will follow a one way system (changing in one set on the way in and anther set on the way out.  This will allow our staff to clean changing rooms between sessions.
  5. When in the water your family or bubble must social distance from other families.  As recommended in the guidance, children under the age of 14 MUST be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 or over to control social distancing of your family or bubble.
  6. Once finished your swim, exit into the changing rooms and change as quickly as you can maintaining social distancing.  You should put your face covering back on when exiting the building.

SWIMMING LESSONS

  1. Swimming Lessons (after school) start for children from 4 years old.
  2. You need to book and pay for the lessons in advance either by Direct Debit or by purchasing a block of 10 at the till.
  3. Children will then be allocated a time slot on an agreed date.  The children in each class will be of the same stage and each class has reduced capacity to allow more space for social distancing.  As children progress during their lessons they will be continuously assessed and when the swimming instructor passes them they will more to the next class up.  This will be done at reception as you will have to agree the best time slot for the next group.
  4. When entering the pool, parents/guardians should wear a face covering.  There should only be one parent/guardian per child to limit the number of spectators.  Where possible it should only be one parent/guardian but if you need to bring your other children you can or you can wait outside.
  5. The changing rooms are operating a one way system so children will get changed on one side and leave on the other.  Belongings should be put in a locker or carried by the parent/guardian to the spectator area.
  6. Children will wait on the pool side keeping their distance from other swimmers and will be collected for registration from the class teacher.
  7. At the end of the lesson, parents should keep their face covering on and collect their child and then taken to get changed.  They may have a quick rinse shower but please try to spend as little time as possible in the changing rooms.

Thank you for helping us keep safe.
