Pilates

Pilates can be a great point of entry to exercise. It’s essentially a series of targeted movements that focus on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. Pilates is a low impact exercise that’s easy on the joints and is one of the most effective forms of exercise for arthritis and suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Pilates classes are held on Monday evening, Thursday morning, there’s a ‘women only’ class on Friday evening and a lunchtime class on Saturday.

Yoga

Yoga exercises consist mainly of postures, often connected by flowing sequences, breathing exercises and ending with relaxation, lying down, or meditation. Yoga focuses on stretching while Pilates is more about strength. Great for mindfulness – yoga heals the soul. Yoga classes at Elswick Pool are held on Monday mornings, Wednesday morning and evening, and both Friday and Saturday mornings.

Legs, bums and tums

‘Women only’ class with exercises specifically targeted on your bottom half, expect a good workout to tackle those wobbly areas. Develop muscle tone and strength in a feelgood environment. Suitable for all levels of ability. Held on Tuesday mornings.

HIIT

HIIT stands for high intensity interval training, a form of cardiovascular exercises, involving short, vigorous, intense training followed by intervals of rest. HIIT takes your cardio workout to another level as you push your pace out of your comfort zone. This class is for those with a confident level of fitness. Held on Monday lunchtimes only.

Boxing

Boxing classes are held for both children and adults. They are a great way to stay in shape, learn to box, develop speed, agility, co-ordination and discipline. Boxing is a contact sport. Kids’ boxing (8 – 16yrs) is held on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Adult boxing (16+) takes place on Tuesday evenings too.

Aquafit at Elswick Community Pool & Gym

Aquafit

How do you fancy an aerobics class in the pool? Aquafit is high energy and fun, great for improving wellbeing, burning fat and boosting your energy. Exercising in water is a great way to reduce strain or impact on your joints. You don’t need to be a swimmer to take part as your feet will always be able to touch the ground. Great for all ages and abilities who like moderate exercise. There’s a ‘women only’ class on Monday morning and everyone is welcome on Monday evening, Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Jump in and enjoy!

Deep Aquafit

Deep aquafit exercises are done in the deep end of the pool, your feet don’t touch the ground so you’re really working out. Similar to standard aquafit but with additional swimming elements for a more intense workout. You’ll burn more calories and will need to be a confident swimmer. A great workout without traumatic impact on the joints. Two classes a week – Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings – enjoy!

Zumba and Zumba Gold

If you’re ready to shake that booty to great music and get a high intensity dance workout – you need Zumba. Boogie on down and meet your friends at Elswick Pool. Girls, you will need a lot of energy for this one! Our classes on Tuesday morning  ‘women only’.  We also provide Zumba Gold which is aimed at older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class at a lower-intensity. You’re welcome!

Saturday 8am - 5.30pm
Sunday 8am to 3pm

Our car park is accessed from Beech Grove Road. It does get busy at times but there's 'on street' parking just a short walk away on Westmoreland Road and there's a car park near the shops on Elswick Road.
