Looking to stay active and have fun? Then you’ve come to the right place. At Elswick Community Pool & Gym, we offer a variety of fitness classes designed for all levels, from energising cardio workouts to relaxing yoga sessions. Below, you’ll find a full list of our fitness classes along with the timetable—so you can find the perfect session to fit your schedule.

Pilates
Pilates can be a great point of entry to exercise. Firstly, it’s essentially a series of targeted movements that focus on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. Secondly, Pilates is a low impact exercise that’s easy on the joints and is one of the most effective forms of exercise for arthritis and suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Pilates classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. Additionally, the Monday morning class is ‘women only’.

Yoga
Yoga exercises consist mainly of postures, often connected by flowing sequences, breathing exercises and ending with relaxation, lying down, or meditation. Unlike Pilates where the focus is on strength, Yoga focuses on stretching. Additionally, it is great for mindfulness – yoga heals the soul. Our yoga classes are held on Monday mornings, Wednesday morning, and both Friday and Saturday mornings.

Legs, bums and tums
‘Women only’ class with exercises specifically targeted on your bottom half, expect a good workout to tackle those wobbly areas. Moreover, this class is aimed at developing muscle tone and strength in a feel-good environment. Lastly, legs, bums and tums is suitable for all levels of ability and it takes place on Tuesday mornings.

Booty Bands Toning
Get ready to tone, sculpt, and strengthen with our brand-new Booty Band Toning Class. This dynamic, low-impact workout uses resistance bands to target your glutes, legs, and core, helping you build strength, improve definition, and boost endurance—all while keeping it fun and high-energy! Every Monday evening.

Aquafit
How do you fancy an aerobics class in the pool? Aquafit is high energy and fun, great for improving wellbeing, burning fat and boosting your energy. Exercising in water is a great way to reduce strain or impact on your joints. Most importantly, you don’t need to be a swimmer to take part as your feet will always be able to touch the ground. Great for all ages and abilities who like moderate exercise. Lastly, there’s a ‘women only’ class on Monday morning and everyone is welcome on Monday evening, Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Jump in and enjoy!
Deep Aquafit
Deep aquafit exercises are done in the deep end of the pool, your feet don’t touch the ground so you’re really working out. Similar to standard aquafit, but with additional swimming elements for a more intense workout. Additionally, you’ll burn more calories and will need to be a confident swimmer. A great workout without traumatic impact on the joints. Two classes a week – Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings – enjoy!

Zumba
If you’re ready to shake that booty to great music and get a high intensity dance workout – you need Zumba. Boogie on down and meet your friends at Elswick Pool. Girls, you will need a lot of energy for this one! Our classes are on Tuesday morning ‘women only’. You’re welcome!

Barre
We’re bringing you a new fitness class: Barre – a dynamic workout that combines elements of ballet, Pilates, and strength training to help you improve posture, build lean muscles, and boost flexibility. This low-impact yet highly effective workout is perfect for all fitness levels! The class will take place every Wednesday evening.

Health and Wellness Walk: Step into Fitness
Boost your physical and mental well-being by joining our Health Walking Class—an accessible, low-impact session suitable for all fitness levels. This class combines brisk walking intervals, strengthening exercises, and gentle stretching routines to improve cardiovascular health, increase strength and flexibility, support weight management, and enhance mental clarity while reducing stress. Led by experienced instructors, it also offers great social benefits, giving you the chance to meet new people and build connections. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned walker, this class is a great way to improve your health, energy, and mood every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

Fitness with George
Looking to get fit, have fun, and feel fantastic?Join Fitness with George for an energising workout, designed to suit all fitness levels. Each session follows a circuit format with different stations, incorporating free weights, bag and pad work, kettlebells, dumbbells, and the spinning bike. The focus is on muscular and cardiovascular endurance, helping you build all-round fitness in a supportive environment.

Our car park is accessed from Beech Grove Road. It does get busy at times but there's 'on street' parking just a short walk away on Westmoreland Road and there's a car park near the shops on Elswick Road.
